Fall - Back-to-school: make it colorful

Summer vacation’s already over and back-to-school is just around the corner—which means routine’s also lurking nearby. No more late nights or long weekends. So what can you do to keep the summery colours around just a little while longer? Here are a few tips that might make you want to dive head first into a bright September.

Paint a slate wall

Can a black wall really bring sunshine into your life? Of course, especially if you can write on it! In the office area, the slate wall can be transformed into a tool that sparks creativity and helps out with homework and brainstorms. If it's in the kitchen, it can become the perfect place to jot down to-do lists and upcoming appointments, write down important reminders or leave little love notes. Get coloured slate pencils and chalks and keep them within reach. To erase your wall chart, all you need is a rag and Hertel All-Purpose Disinfectant Spray.

Create a lunch box

Back to school means back to lunch. Perhaps a new lunch box will help motivate you? Make it yourself to create the lunch box of your dreams. The Internet offers a ton of tutorials on how to create your own unique lunch boxes.

A white canvas bag, some fabric paint, minimal sewing skills—or a lot of fabric glue!—and a rainy Saturday afternoon: those are all the ingredients you need for a great family or solo activity.

In with the new… reusable-style!

Renewing school supplies is fun. But do you know what's even more satisfying? Doing something environment- and wallet-friendly by cleaning out what you already have to see what can be reused. What to do with the items that are still useful, but you're tired of seeing? Decorate them with stickers, patterns or prints to create the impression of novelty. Your stuff will never have felt so YOU.

Breaking the routine

Does a redundant schedule bore you? It's time to try activities that take you out of your daily routine! Yoga, a walk in the woods, a dance class, an art class: find something that suits you and offers you a change of scenery. And to keep things interesting until your next vacation, list 20 or so activities you'd like to do between now and the holidays: go to the theatre, try rock climbing, read in a café, cook a new dessert, etc. Cut out your suggestions and pick one at random every Sunday night. You'll have one week to complete your challenge before the draw starts again the following weekend.

Scrub the boredom away—it's going to be just fine!
